Rice Field & Egret

So I just came across this forgotten set of photos of Little Egrets I took at Sekino-e sometimes around last month or so. There were total of 2 birds in breeding plumage feeding in a newly planted rice field. It was another overcast day so it's quite suitable for egret photography. Too bad I didn't find any Cattle Egret coming to the area since then, though during the trip to Nakatsu, a city north of Beppu, I saw many beautiful breeding birds feeding in the rice fields along the way. Seems like Beppu doesn't fit for its preference.

Today, I surprisingly found a large flock of Asian House-Martin (Delichon dasypus) sunbathing and swifting in the campus. I've only seen the species once last year and only one individual. Today, I roughly estimated 50 birds. Most of them were leisuring on the roof of the academic office and occasionally flew out all at once creating a very beuatiful exodus. Even other students walking in the campus had to stop and stare at them. Unfortunately, I didn't bring a camera to the campus with me so apparently no photo of them here. However, all the birds vanished before noon. Hope tomorrow they'll still be coming back again.

I just love Little Egrets, especially in the UK where they look so exotic. Because they are now so common some people dont look at them much. Your images are great as usual, I like the one with the fly in its bill very much.

I agree with Phil. That picture is really interesting! So is the one where the Egret is preening. The pure white wings and body of the Egret just make it so elegant and graceful.

Like the new way you're arranging photos, I'll have to look into it too........

Egrets are scarce up in Hokkaido, I've seen all 4 species but apart from Great Egret they only come here by accident.

Nice photos!

Thanks a lot guys for each of your kind words!
Egrets are abundant in Thailand and I never thought of taking photos of them until I came to Japan. Scarcity made me see significance lol!
