Here are some more photos of the same pair of Ruddy-breasted Crakes at Furui-chi. The birds often walked up on the reeds after they finished feeding in the lotus field and took some time to preen themselves and each other. When strong sunlight appears after some cloudy days, the birds often come out to the open to dry up their wings. I had a great time watching and photographing them doing their routines closely for many hours.

I have to say I'd thought these were very shy semi nocturnal birds, you did well to get so close and in the daylight too........
Actually you're quite right...I normally see these birds coming out at dusk or dawn but for some reason this pair didn't seem to care much about sunlight...
Ruddy Crakes... nice. Mainly winter visitors here in HK, so we only see them one at a time, and usually as it gets too dark to photograph !
Thanks John!
Didn't know that this species also migrate....very interesting!
I see them here throughout the year......
